Filed under News, Events on Friday, November 19, 2010.
With the French pavilion in Shanghai boasting a specific area dedicated to Bordeaux wine, Castel’s wines – the top exported wines in China - featured prominently in several events

A themed week around Wines from the Rhone Valley
Throughout the Expo, the Rhône-Alpes region invited key business players from the area to host a themed week in the Rhône-Alpes Pavilion in order to promote their products and expertise to the Chinese general public and trade and raise their awareness of Rhone Valley wines.

This was an opportunity to showcase flagship brands: Castel has a strong presence in this winemaking region, with a centre specializing in Rhone Valley wines located in Castel Saint-Priest, near Lyon. A wine bar, wine-tasting discovery with Famille Castel, expert tastings and premium tastings with L’Esprit St Sauveur, aged in oak barrels, not to mention the mini-exhibition for all, with additionally Les Combes St Sauveur in red and rosé (No. 2 in France ), Montalcour in red and rosé (No. 3 in France2), Bouquet du Comtat and Prieur du Comtat (Côtes du Rhône Villages).

The Wine Bar
The Wine Bar welcomed around 650 people a day.
A Chinese sommelier, trained at the Université du Vin, taught a Chinese audience the basics of wine-tasting with a focus on the specific features of Rhone Valley wines.
More than 3,000 visitors came to the Wine Bar over the week.

Wine-tasting Discovery
Visitors with a keen interest in wines had the opportunity to attend 1.5 hr tasting discovery sessions dispensed by professors from the Suze La Rousse Wine University.
More than 300 people attended these sessions.

A wall of Bordeaux wine bottles at the Shanghai World Expo
From September 5 to 20, the French pavilion included a 180 sq. m space called “Bordeaux, embark on a sensual journey”, where visitors could experience the culture, regional economy and wines of Bordeaux.

For the occasion, the Bordeaux municipality asked CIVB to provide wine bottles to adorn the pavilion’s custom-designed decor. Six thousand bottles were specially prepared by Castel: these branded vintages, decorated with a special label designed by a Chinese artist, were set up to form a monumental mural. Each day, some of the bottles would be given to visitors, gradually revealing a giant photo of the city of Bordeaux.

Castel: a familiar player on the Chinese market
With ten years’ presence in Asia, a subsidiary in China and a partnership with Chinese leader Changyu, French No. 1 Castel is strengthening its network - ten importing partners serving more than 1,500 retailers in the country. Over 13 million bottles were exported to China in 2009, further confirmation of Castel’s success in the Asian development and implementation project initiated by the company in 1999.

With 2010 looking like another successful year for Castel’s French wines (Castel Brands and Châteaux) - 20 million bottles for the year - the company stands out for the second year running as the leader in bottled wine exports to China. This is the result of a development strategy focused on key brands and Chateaux for the Chinese market. With its extensive product ranges, Castel fully responds to customer needs. Enthusiasm for Castel wines in China is expected to grow further with a new advertising campaign on three national television channels (CCTV2, CCTV10 and CCTV News).
